see... There is Entertainment in Venice too!

Well... along with my obsession for chocolate, comes my obsession for Red Bull - yes that highly addictive caffeine and taurine based drink that "gives you wings"... Red Bull has a very good marketing campaign for starters - sponsoring many different events, like the air race that was hosted in Perth the last few years.

But this was an event with a difference... Acqua Alta. The floodings on December 1st in Venice were the worst the beautiful city has seen since 1986 - the most fun had by anyone that day (other than myself who was gob-smacked with the experience) was Duncan Zuur - he is a Dutch pro-wake boarder.

When the water levels had reached 135cm in San Marco Square, the water-logged tourists were surprised with some 'half time entertainment'... see here...

After performing 4 impressive turns quick enough for the local police and security to turn a blind eye, it was all over... One would think - 'what crazy mofo would do such a thing?!' - a crazy mofo being sponsored, that's for sure. I admire Red Bulls unique and quick-witted use of advertising mechanisms! Not even us, the people living in Venice knew that the floods would be that high until 1 hour before it had happened, which I would assume Red Bull would have thought up and organised the entire event within that hour! Brilliant if you ask me!

The publicity and hype that it would have driven at the time would have been unbelievable - but what next? Will we see a pro-surfer riding the next Tsunami? An air-boarder floating through a Cyclone? Or even a fire-juggler at a Volcanic Eruption?

I so want to do this! Need to find a power winch, a battery and a cart! I'll try it out in the snows of Iowa first.
